Accurate and timely migration statistics are critical for developing sound, evidence-based policies that maximize the contributions of migrants while ensuring that no one is left behind. Although various government institutions collect extensive migration-related data, there is currently no centralized mechanism to consolidate, disaggregate, and cross-reference this information in a way that supports the achievement of migration-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the objectives of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM).
In response to this gap, the Sustainable Development Council (SDC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) initiated the development of the Migration and Sustainable Development Goals Monitoring Platform (MSMP). This digital platform is designed to serve as a comprehensive infrastructure for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting migration data in alignment with the SDGs and GCM objectives.
Marking a significant milestone in the development of the platform, the SDC and the IOM successfully conducted the first Stakeholder Consultation on the Migration & SDGs Monitoring Platform (MSMP) on 30 September 2025. The consultation aimed to introduce participants to the MSMP core functionalities, provide hands-on experience with the platform’s data upload methodology, and create an opportunity for participants to share feedback and suggestions to further refine the system.
The session was attended by members of the Inter-Agency Committee and representatives from various migration-related data generating agencies. Participants engaged actively with the platform, discussed matters related to data uploading, and provided valuable input for its continued development.
