The Director General of the Sustainable Development Council and staff recently held a meeting with the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) team, headed by its Executive Director to explore opportunities for deepening collaboration in advancing sustainable development in Sri Lanka. During the discussion, the UNGC team presented their latest initiative, and the SDG Innovation Coalition, aimed at catalyzing collective action to promote private sector–led SDG innovations. The team also highlighted its operations in the country, with a particular focus on promoting active private sector participation in government-led initiatives.

The meeting also emphasized the critical importance of bridging the private sector data gap, which is essential for strengthening national reporting and driving evidence-based decision-making. The discussion focused on the provision of private sector data on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) implementation to ensure more accurate and timely tracking of progress. Both teams expressed a strong commitment to leveraging private sector engagement as a driver of sustainable development, fostering innovation and accelerating national progress.
