On Tuesday 3rd December 2024, The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce hosted a Multi-Stakeholder Forum on ESG Investment, led by the Finance and Markets Committee. The discussion brought together key stakeholders from the private sector, financial sector, banking sector and government to discuss a cohesive strategy for sustainable finance in Sri Lanka. ESG investment is increasingly recognised as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth, particularly in emerging markets. However, in Sri Lanka, many initiatives in this space currently operate in silos and the purpose of the forum was to bridge the gaps between stakeholders and ensure a holistic, multi-sectoral approach to sustainable finance.

The keynote was addressed by Ms W. A. Dilrukshini, Assistant Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, and was supported by presentations from Mr. Channa Dayaratne, Vice President - Treasury & Investment Banking, DFCC Bank; Mr. Palinda Perera, ESG and Climate Change Specialist, and Ms. Chamindry Saparamadu, Director General of SDC.

The presentation delivered by Ms. Saparamadu covered the current status of Sri Lanka's SDG progress, the current private sector initiatives supported by SDC, and the future outlook of sustainable finance in Sri Lanka. The presentations were then followed by an interactive discussion that examined the role of diverse stakeholders and how best collaborative efforts can be led effectively.
